Open Face Chinese Poker Live Event History: is TonyBet the Future of the Game?

The Open Face Chinese Poker World Champion will lift the winner’s trophy this December in Prague celebrating the first-ever major OFC title. Born in mid 2000s, the game had to wait 10 years before achieving world-wide recognition.

Although Open Face Chinese quickly gained popularity among the high rollers of the game, according to the most reliable online poker database, the first major live OFC poker tournament took place only in 2013 during the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. The €2,000 + 150 Re-Entry event drew 52 players generating the €135,800 prize pool.

Since then the poker world witnessed a few attempts of bringing the game to the big scene, the most successful of which was the 2013 World Series of Poker $5,000 side event gathering 48 runners. The tournament saw a $225,600 prize pool and none other than Mr. Victor Ramdin taking home the $76,707 first-place prize.

However, none of the past OFC live tournaments gained the recognition the fans of the game would desire. That is until this December, when the biggest online site dedicated solely to Open Face Chinese, Tonybet Poker will hold the first-ever World Championship.

The event featuring two tournaments, the $10,000 High Roller Pineapple and the $1,000 Main Event Pineapple will crown the first World Champion. Also, unlike the previous big live OFC tournaments, which were played in the Classic game format, the Tonybet World Championship events will be played in the most popular, Pineapple variation.

With the event just a few weeks away, the big question, concerning the poker community is whether the Tonybet World Championship is going to be the biggest live Open Face Chinese poker event in history? The site representatives are confident: it will be.

“We are rewarding at least 40 players with Main Event seats via our online promotions”, Tonybet Poker spokesperson said. “We’re running daily satellites on our site giving away at least three tickets to the Main Event every week, and with the event drawing closer, these numbers are only going to go up.”

Another huge factor defining the success of the event is its timing. The OFC World Championship will run at the beginning of December during the Prague poker festival just after the World Poker Tour and before the European Poker Tour. Having in mind the fact that most of poker elite will be in town for the major tournaments, some of them popping up for the OFC event wouldn’t come as a surprise.

With the increasing number of online satellites and exclusive promotions, there are plenty of ways for you to qualify for the first-ever Open Face Chinese Poker World Championship. Be sure you check out Tonybet Poker for all the info on how to win your live vent seat and be in the running for the World Champion title.
